Character
Der Westhafenkanal verbindet den Westhafen (Spree-Berlin-Spandauer Schifffahrtskanal) mit der Charlottenburger Schleuse und damit der Unterhavel. Er ist 3,2 km lang, durchquert die Bezirke Mitte (Moabit) und Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf und ist eine der wichtigsten urbanen Spinnstrecken Berlins.
Water structure
Komplett ausgebauter Schifffahrtskanal mit Spundwänden, max. 4,5 m tief. Drei Brücken (Putlitzstraße, Quitzowstraße, Charlottenburger Brücke). Die Charlottenburger Schleuse am Ostende sorgt für Strömungswechsel und ist Top-Zanderspot.
Nature & history
Erbaut 1910 zur Anbindung des neu errichteten Westhafens an die Havel-Schifffahrt. Heute weiterhin Berufsschifffahrt-Strecke, gleichzeitig populäre Streetfishing-Strecke seit den 2000ern. Bekannt für jährlich nachgewiesene Großzander über 90 cm.

Spring
Water temperature rises slowly. Perch move into shallow bays, pike finish spawning. Best time: from mid-April along weed edges.
Summer
Warm and nutrient-rich. Predators bite early morning or evening. Night fishing for eel and catfish is most productive now.
Autumn
Pike and zander feed up for winter. Large soft swimbaits & a slow presentation get the big ones now.
Winter
Cold and clear. Target species in deeper troughs. Vertical jigging from the boat or a bottom rig at dusk give the best chances.
