History & character.
Character
Der Oder-Spree-Kanal (offiziell: Spree-Oder-Wasserstraße) beginnt am Seddinsee (km 45.1) und verläuft ~85 km durch die Brandenburger Waldlandschaft bis Eisenhüttenstadt. Der westliche Abschnitt bis Fürstenwalde ist besonders fischreich. Die ersten 2 km liegen im DAV-Berlin-Revier, ab Schleuse Wernsdorf gilt das LAVB Brandenburg.
Water structure
Der Kanal wechselt zwischen begradigten Abschnitten (3–4 m Tiefe, Spundwände) und naturnaheren Strecken mit Schilfufer und Böschungen. Schleusen erzeugen lokale Strömung und sind Top-Spots für Zander. In den breiteren Kanalhaltungen entstehen seeartige Bereiche mit Krautbewuchs. Der Grund ist überwiegend sandig.
Nature & history
Der Oder-Spree-Kanal wurde bereits 1668 als Friedrich-Wilhelms-Kanal eröffnet – eine der ältesten künstlichen Wasserstraßen Brandenburgs. Er war jahrhundertelang die wichtigste Handelsverbindung zwischen Schlesien und Berlin. Heute ist die Berufsschifffahrt deutlich zurückgegangen, was dem Kanal eine angenehme Ruhe verleiht.

Spring
Water temperature rises slowly. Perch move into shallow bays, pike finish spawning. Best time: from mid-April along weed edges.
Summer
Warm and nutrient-rich. Predators bite early morning or evening. Night fishing for eel and catfish is most productive now.
Autumn
Pike and zander feed up for winter. Large soft swimbaits & a slow presentation get the big ones now.
Winter
Cold and clear. Target species in deeper troughs. Vertical jigging from the boat or a bottom rig at dusk give the best chances.
