History & character.
Character
Mit 137 ha Wasserfläche und bis zu 38 m Tiefe ist der Schermützelsee das dominierende Gewässer der Märkischen Schweiz. Eingebettet zwischen bewaldeten Endmoränenhängen liegt er direkt am Kurort Buckow und gilt als eines der landschaftlich schönsten Angelreviere Brandenburgs.
Water structure
Der See ist ein klassischer Rinnensee: schmal, langgestreckt, mit steilen Uferböschungen. Die Tiefenrinne fällt mittig auf 35–38 m ab, während flache Plateaus an den Ufern bei 3–8 m Hecht-Spots bilden. Klares, sauerstoffreiches Wasser bietet der Großen Maräne (Coregonus maraena) optimalen Lebensraum – eine Seltenheit in BB-Stillgewässern.
Nature & history
Der See wurde während der Weichsel-Eiszeit als Zungenbeckensee geformt und liegt im Naturpark Märkische Schweiz. Buckow am Nordufer ist seit dem 19. Jh. Kurort und war Sommerresidenz Bertolt Brechts. Die Fischerei am See hat eine lange Tradition; bis heute werden Maränen kommerziell befischt.
