Fines for violations

Pursuing, catching or killing a fish during the closed season or below the minimum size is an offence under the BbgFischG. Brandenburg imposes fines of up to €50,000, higher for intentional violations. Your fishing licence may also be revoked. If protected fish are caught by accident: release immediately and carefully; if deeply hooked, cut the line at the level of the mouth.

Spreewald special rules

In three Spreewald waters (VC 03-01, VC 09-03, VC 09-04), different closed seasons apply per the LAVB water regulations:
  • Pike: 15 Jan – 30 Apr (protection starts 2 weeks earlier)
  • Zander: 1 Apr – 15 Jun (closed season 15 days longer)
  • Scaled Carp: minimum size 40 cm (instead of 35 cm)
