History & character.
Character
Der Wandlitzsee ist ein 252 ha großer Glazialrinnen-See in der Gemeinde Wandlitz im Landkreis Barnim, etwa 25 km nordöstlich von Berlin. Mit 24 m maximaler Tiefe und klarem Wasser zählt er zu den ökologisch wertvollsten Seen im Naturpark Barnim.
Water structure
Etwa 2,5 km lang, 1 km breit, langgestreckt mit zwei Hauptbecken und einer schmalen Mittelpassage. Steile Uferkanten am Ostufer, flachere Schilfzonen am Westufer. Verbindung mit dem Stolzenhagener und Liepnitzsee über den Wandlitzer Mühlenfließ.
Nature & history
Der See entstand in der Weichsel-Kaltzeit. Im 20. Jh. war Wandlitz beliebte Sommerfrische der Berliner. Heute ist der See im Naturpark Barnim und wird von der Fischerei Wandlitz seit Generationen bewirtschaftet. Die Marände wurde Ende des 19. Jh. eingebracht und etablierte sich erfolgreich.

Spring
Water temperature rises slowly. Perch move into shallow bays, pike finish spawning. Best time: from mid-April along weed edges.
Summer
Warm and nutrient-rich. Predators bite early morning or evening. Night fishing for eel and catfish is most productive now.
Autumn
Pike and zander feed up for winter. Large soft swimbaits & a slow presentation get the big ones now.
Winter
Cold and clear. Target species in deeper troughs. Vertical jigging from the boat or a bottom rig at dusk give the best chances.
