Without a valid fishing licence, fishing is generally not permitted in Germany – with one important exception for Brandenburg.
Brandenburg Special Rule: Coarse fishing without a licence is permitted
In Brandenburg, coarse fish may be caught without a fishing licence. Requirements: valid fishing fee stamp + water permit for the fishing venue.
Predatory fish (pike, zander, perch, catfish) and salmonids always require a fishing licence.
